All Jemma Keane wants is to find her voice at the sports and pop culture blog she writes for. But she’s been stuck fetching and fact-checking until she wants to scream. It isn’t until an unexpected opportunity at the Rio Olympic Games presents itself that she begins to discover a Jemma that she’d buried away long ago – a risk-taker and an adventurer who doesn’t just want to speak her mind, she wants to yell it from the top of Christ the Redeemer.

Gabriel Rocha hasn’t been back to Rio since he and his mother left more than ten years ago. He’d always imagined showing his best friend the real Rio during the Olympics, but when disaster strikes, he’s stuck with Jemma instead.

Jemma isn’t anything like what he expected. Gabe only means to protect her, but she weasels right past his guard and makes him want whatever she’ll give him. Sure, Gabe’s seen enough romantic comedies to realize how a fling with Jemma might end, but what he anticipates the least is that he never wants it to.

I received Summer Attractions for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

With the Olympics in Rio about to start, I was excited to get a somewhat of a behind-the-scenes look at what might be happening at the 2016 Games.

As a new reporter, Jemma gets to cover the Games when her boss, Nick, is injured. With only one major story under her belt, this is most certainly her time to shine. Gabe is an LAPD officer originally from Rio and Nick’s best friend. He is left to protect the young cub reporter for the full three weeks of the Games.

At first, I wasn’t sure how this would all play out. Gabe was so cold to Jemma, but when the heat rose, sparks flew. The chemistry soared off the charts and the adventures they had were amazing. While they were having the time of their lives, a particular story of a young female athlete falls into Jemma’s lap. I loved how they worked together to get the story and protect the athlete and themselves at the same time. Of course, no journalist gets a story easily, but Gabe was there for Jemma every step of the way. While she wrote and researched and he protected, they ended up falling hard for each other.

Though this couple hit a few potholes bigger than the worst ones on the streets of Rio, Bolden gave us the happily ever after and a terrific sneak peek into one of the world’s biggest traditions.

About Beth Bolden

Beth Bolden lives in Portland, Oregon with her supportive husband and their beloved cat. She wholly believes in Keeping Portland Weird, but wishes she didn’t have to make the yearly pilgrimage up to Seattle to watch her Boston Red Sox play baseball. She’s a fan of fandoms, and spends too much of her free time on tumblr.

Beth has been writing practically since she learned the alphabet. Unfortunately, her first foray into novel writing, titled Big Bear with Sparkly Earrings, wasn’t a bestseller, but hope springs eternal. She’s published two novels, The Lucky Charm and Getting Lucky, and a short story, Eye of the Storm. Her next novel, Summer Attractions, will be released in August 2016.
