War torn Italy broke Sophia’s world apart. After the death of her husband and brother along with the betrayal of her sister-in-law, she has has only one fight left in her. She returns to England to find two valuable paintings her family owned that were stolen by Pauline Bonaparte. Her only problem? She gets caught by the only man who ever set her world on fire.
Victor believes Sophia betrayed him five years earlier. When he finds her working as a maid, he has no idea what she might be up to. The rub is he can’t seem to keep himself from loving her again despite the tragedy of their past.
DeLand gave me a mystery, a passionate love story, and a history lesson all in one package. I loved the easy flow of the story that left me guessing at every turn. The search for the paintings turn into a little bit of foreplay for Victor and Sophia, the closer they came to their goal, the closer them came to each other. As a first time reader of the series, I didn’t feel at all lost. I crave to read the first two stories in the series now!
Masquerade with a Marquess is a sensual dance of intrigue, devotion, and love. DeLand has another fan to add to her very long list. Grazie per le belle parole.
