Everleigh
I packed up my life, moving halfway across the country for a fresh start. Running away from my past, running away for my future. A year later, I’ve settled into my new home, my new job, my new friends, and my new identity. You could say things have started returning to normal.
Normal, if not for him.
His identity is a mystery to me, but I know he’s there, watching me, leaving tokens outside my door. The gifts he sends are personal and deliberate, proving he has eyes everywhere—even where I least expect it.
For months, he remained hidden in the shadows until a chance encounter with a masked man at a Halloween party led to a one-night stand and a box delivered containing the most personal gift from him yet: A feather from my Halloween costume.
Loche
After years of living with the consequences of my actions, I’ve finally gotten my life together. Well, aside from the occasional illegal activity that may or may not include a little light stalking. But who’s counting?
When I first saw Ever, I was captivated by her until I learned about her past. Then I became obsessed with her. Obsessed with keeping her safe, obsessed with protecting her when and if the past were to come back to haunt her. Everything was going fine, but then one night at her friend’s Halloween party changed everything.
Ever still doesn’t know who I am, despite having spent the night with me, and I have to keep it that way. Because in reality, she already knows exactly who I am.
And she despises me down to my very core.
I received EverGreene for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Sara Furlong Burr’s EverGreene has given her readers a romance that successfully navigates the fine line between thrillingly obsessive and genuinely distressing. Our masked man is not only a stalker, but he’s also a man who spends the majority of his days with our FMC without the mask.
Everleigh is a woman who has meticulously packed up her past, crossed the country, and built a new identity. Her “normal” life is constantly undermined by the subtle, personalized tokens left by an unseen watcher, whom she only knows by the moniker of V.
What starts as a way to lurk at a Halloween party turns into a exhilarating sexual daydream come true. After their explosive one-night stand, V takes a feather from Everleigh’s peacock costume and delivers it to her doorstep. Burr does a fantastic job of establishing the masked lover dark romance as V continues to leave gifts that are deliberate, intimate, and prove that he has access to her deepest secrets. The gifts left at her home transform the story from a fantasy into an intensely physical and emotional relationship, forcing the reader to ask how far does his obsession go?
There are two sides to our stalker. V, the man out to possess her, body and soul, and Loche, the co-worker she loathes to the very depths of Hell. Loche’s secret identity turns their one-night stand from a spicy plot point into an all-consuming obsession. The resulting conflict for Loche is electric, fueled by a scorching chemistry that ultimately clashes violently with genuine betrayal. Burr expertly handles this push and pull, making the emotional stakes higher than if the reader had no idea of V’s true identity.
I highly recommended EverGreene for readers who love dark romance where the line between love and obsession is blurred, and where the FMC’s emotional struggle is as compelling as the overall suspense. Be warned: this is a book that demands to be read in one sitting.
Don’t worry about longing for more of this universe. Burr has promised more is to come of the Fallen Soldiers series. Next up, one of Loche’s best friends, Malachi, and Everliegh’s best friend, Katy, will be getting their own story. Their story promises to add new layers to the world Burr has created, giving fans of EverGreene another opportunity to immerse themselves in the suspenseful and emotionally charged atmosphere of the series.
