From bestselling author Sarah Deeham comes a new boss-assistant steamy standalone romance.
I. Quit.
I dream of uttering those two little words. Because after years as movie star Sebastian Blake’s personal assistant, I’ve had enough. My infuriating, impossible, and ridiculously hot boss may pay well, but it’s hard to have a life when I’m at his beck and call twenty-four seven.
It’s time to forget any inconvenient feelings I once had for him and go after my own dreams. I figure Sebastian won’t care. Except, he’s not letting me leave so easily. And I somehow go from personal assistant to fake fiancee — and sharing a bed with my boss.
I need her. Nobody else.
Emma’s my sounding board. My conscience. My right hand. Sure, she’s a sarcastic pain in my ass, but she makes my chaotic life run smoothly. So when she suddenly quits, I refuse to take no for an answer and use her two-weeks’ notice to convince her to stay.
Except…. She’s not cooperating. And when she suddenly ends up in the hospital, everything changes. I’ll do whatever it takes to care for the one woman whose job it always was to take care of me. Even if that means being fake-engaged. And not giving into temptation...
I received Star-Crossed Assistant for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Where has Sarah Deeham been all my life??? I can’t believe I haven’t read this series before Star-Crossed Assistant. I’m ready to read the Deeham backlist now!
We begin our journey with Emma, the incredibly organized assistant to a Hollywood star who is more than a little fed up with putting her own dreams on hold. For seven years, she’s been on call 24/7 for her A-lister boss, Sebastian Blake. She asked for just one night off to attend her sister’s college graduation, but Sebastian ruined it by repeatedly calling until she had no choice but to return to work. That is her final straw, so Emma gives him her two weeks’ notice. Determined not to lose her, Sebastian uses every resource a multimillionaire has to try to change her mind.
With the stage set, we get a hilarious and deliciously romantic war to win Emma’s heart and skills as the best assistant in the world. The phrase “You don’t know what you’ve got until it is gone” definitely applies here. Sebastian is gutted by the thought of not having Emma in his life. He’s spent years suppressing his feelings because she’s his employee. It turns out Emma has been doing the same thing. In the two weeks leading up to her last day, Sebastian gets dangerously close to crossing the line… and then that line is obliterated in a way I never expected.
I adored both of these characters with my whole heart. I know people who have the organizational tendencies that Emma has, and I totally understand the urge to put everything in its proper place. While incredibly talented, she is also humble and down to earth with a delightful sense of humor.
Sebastian … what can I say? The description of the man makes me think of a dark-haired Adonis with eyes as blue as the summer sky and a body made for sin. While he was a bit clueless in the beginning, he matures and grows over the course of the novel, making him an officially swoon-worthy book boyfriend.
Caution: This story is a slow-burn, but when the spice arrives, it is explosive.
While this is a series, I didn’t feel lost at all, just curious about the other couples from earlier books that make appearances here.
From a mansion in the Hollywood Hills to a winery in Napa, this story sweeps readers into a heartfelt, slow-burn romance that makes it impossible not to fall in love with Emma and Sebastian.
Fall for the rest of Deeham’s book boyfriends in Star-Crossed Letters, Star-Crossed Holiday, Star-Crossed Crush, and Star-Crossed Darcy.
