CATALINA
I was never supposed to survive.
As the mortal spare to an immortal sister, I lived in the shadows
until Ry was murdered by a weapon that shouldn't exist.
Now, justice is all I want.
To find her killer, I must take her place in the Queen’s Elite Cadre
and become the very monster everyone fears.
But becoming a weapon means losing my humanity…
and losing the one man I can't resist.VALOREK
The immortals bleed my world dry while my sister rots from the inside out.
I swore to burn their reign to the ground,
until I met her.
Sterling is the enemy,
a silver-blooded soldier of the regime that destroyed my family.
But the electricity between us is undeniable.
We are on opposite sides of a brewing war,
and falling for the enemy is a dangerous mistake
neither of us can afford.

Valorek’s POV
“What I do with my life shouldn’t matter to you,” Catalina says.
“No, I shouldn’t care. But I do.” I close the space between us.
“Why? We just met.” She furrows her brow.
“Tell me I’m not imagining it.” I step closer, intoxicated by the smell of her skin. “This magnetic pull that tugs at me when you’re near.”
“You’re not,” her words are barely a whisper. “I feel it too. But I have to do this, Valorek. Maybe this thing between us was never meant to be more than a dream.”
My chest tightens, as if I can feel her own pain. My gaze falls to her full lips. “I know what the immortals can do. I know how they take whatever they want without thinking about the people they hurt. You’re so much better than that.”
“I don’t need this right now, Valorek.”
I cradle her neck. “Then tell me what you need.”
If she pressed her mouth against mine or if I moved in first, I couldn’t say. But suddenly, Catalina is in my arms. The softness of her lips and the sweet taste of her tongue are the only things that make sense to me right now. I deepen the kiss, and she moves in closer, tunneling her fingers through my hair.
“Don’t go with him,” I mumble against her lips.
“If you could undo something terrible, would you jump on the opportunity or go your merry way with a beautiful stranger?” Her forehead touches mine, and she closes her eyes.
“I would do the right thing,” I answer honestly, a pang of shame washing over me. “Promise me you won’t let those assholes change you.”
She laughs, filling me with sudden hope. “Hey, it could be worse. I could be on my way to Jupiter right now.”
“Hmm. That’s definitely worse.” I groan and kiss her again.
She pulls away first, her cheeks burning bright red. And there it is again—the raw energy crackling around us as I get lost in her eyes. I grip her waist and guide her back until she’s pressed against the steel wall. She doesn’t push me away. Instead, her legs part slightly to let me in.
“You have no idea how much I want this,” I say through gritted teeth, trying my damn best to keep my own lust under control.
“Then why are you still fully dressed?” She pushes the top of my suit over my shoulders.
I shrug out of the suit sleeves and toss my under-shirt aside. Her eyes shine with desire as she takes in my bare torso. Placing my arms on either side of her head, I heave a breath. She runs her hands over my abs, her fingers stopping at the scar just below my shoulder.
“What happened here?” she whispers.
“The Queen’s army happened.” I kiss the tip of her nose, at the very edge of delirium. “This is where I tell you that what
you’re thinking is a bad idea. We’re a bad idea.”
“This is where I tell you, I don’t give a f*ck.” She rises on her tiptoes and presses her lips to mine.
